Dermal Fillers

If you are unhappy with changes in your facial appearance due to aging, injectable fillers could be your solution.  Would you like your face to look the way it did five or ten years ago without undergoing surgical procedures?  If you have hollows under your eyes, sunken cheeks, thin lips, or deep facial lines near your mouth and chin, fillers will offer you a more youthful, refreshed face. Injectable fillers have been found to rejuvenate the aged and sun damaged face by restoring the volume and improving the look of wrinkles and nasolabial folds. Patients look rejuvenated and younger after treatments in a subtle manner, not with the drastic transformation often created by surgical procedures.

Fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturizing component found in your skin, joints, and eyes. Hyaluronic acid in your skin diminishes with age, which is partly responsible for the dulling and loss of elasticity due to aging.  Hyaluronic acid is crucial for normal function of the dermis, providing the skin with fullness, elasticity, cushioning, and lubrication.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a safe and natural filler used for lip augmentation and to demphasize nasolabial folds, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. It can also round out gaunt hollows under the eyes. Effects may last from six to twelve months. Once Restylane is injected, the hyaluronic acid naturally binds to water molecules present in the skin providing the volume and fullness of a more youthful face. After injections, bruising, redness, tenderness and swelling may occur, but usually resolve in a few days.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler. Juvederm is a gel that provides a smoother, natural looking contour to the face. It is a natural product found in our tissues and is eventually absorbed by the body. The rejuvenating results show immediately.  Juvederm lifts and adds volume to the areas being treated. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm simply supplements the body’s age-depleted hyaluronic acid to plump-up the lip or to raise the skin and ‘fill in’ treated wrinkles.

Both Juvederm and Restylane are very similar and may be used interchangeably in most instances.  There are other hyaluronic acid fillers you may have heard of that Dr. Bard may recommend using at your consultation.
